Artist Statement

        Empathy is very important to me. Stories that challenge an audience emotionally and intellectually are essential in the world of art. But what allows people to enjoy and learn from this kind of challenging material is human empathy. 

I want to make deeply emotional films that challenge an audience’s preconceived notions of people and of the world. In the modern political climate, where everyone is supposed to be so splintered into the corners of their own ideological safety net, it is more important than ever to push everyone a little bit towards the center. This should not be done through heavy handed political messaging that bashes its audience over the head, instead it should be through nuanced and flawed characters that resemble real world people that compel the viewer to hopefully be a bit more understanding of other people's beliefs and way of life. 

By combining Tarantino’s fascinating dialogue, Baumbach’s subtle use of emotion, Wong Kar Wai’s mastery over the camera, and adding my own personal flourish of course, I want my work to engage with the masses in order to resonate with as many people as possible. My main goal is to inspire my audience to dismiss their previous judgments of others and reevaluate how they interact with different people. 

Video and film are arguably the most popular medium of art currently due to platforms such as Youtube and Netflix being so accessible. I want to utilize this ever-expanding medium to tell large, varied stories that profoundly impact the public and mainstream culture.
